Why do my clients say this? 🧐

When I’ve been going through the new sign-ups for The Furnace, I often read:

 

“What worked for me was when I was told what to eat”

 

And then what?

 

I saw a great quote during the week along the lines of 

 

“Giving a client a meal plan is like giving them the answers to a test. They’ll do well in the test but have learnt nothing for the next one”

 

I still remember my first “successful” meal plan.

 

I got such amazing results because I was so determined to change my body that I said no to doing anything that would result in me messing up the timing and content of the meals I was told to eat.

 

I remember saying to my PT that I didn’t really like salmon or broccoli but, that was on the plan, and if I wanted “it” bad enough, I would eat it.

 

Actually, I think there was cottage cheese mixed in there too.

 

Yuck.

 

Anyway - I got amazing results over the time period.

 

And I bet you think I’m going to say I didn’t maintain them. I actually did!

 

Because at the same time, I was studying nutrition as part of my PT course.

 

So while I got the short term results, I had learnt about calories, macros etc and how to have more flexibility in my life.

 

I was actually kind of fuming that I forced so much cottage cheese into me when I could have had food that I actually enjoyed.

 

So I have since made it my purpose to help other women have the knowledge that I needed at the start.

 

This is why we don’t do meal plans in The Furnace.

 

And also, because it is illegal for personal trainers to give out a set meal plan.

 

(I know, I know - everyone is doing it)

 

What if I had a severe allergy to cottage cheese but it was on my plan?

 

I could sue my personal trainer!

 

Luckily, I don’t think many people do that, but I hope those PTs that are dishing out generic meal plans learn their lesson somehow.
